Two checks matter most
Your exact device model must support eSIM, and the phone must be carrier-unlocked. A model family can have different hardware by country or carrier, so a generic compatibility list is not enough. Check the device settings and the manufacturer's documentation for your exact model number.
Before purchasing
Complete these checks while you still have reliable internet and access to your carrier account.
- Confirm the device can add an eSIM or cellular plan in Settings.
- Verify the phone is not SIM-locked to your home carrier.
- Check how many eSIM profiles can be stored and how many lines can be active together.
- Read the destination, network, allowance, validity, and activation rules for the exact plan.
- Keep your primary line active only if you understand its roaming and call charges.
Install before departure, activate at the right time
Many travel eSIMs can be installed before departure and activate only after connecting to a supported destination network. Others start their validity when installed or purchased. Follow the instructions attached to your exact plan.
Save the QR code securely and do not share it. Some activation codes are single-use, and a screenshot stored in a public photo album or message thread can expose the profile.
